How would a self monitored system work? When the system detected trespassing or a an event you want to be notified about your could choose to have notifications sent to multiple people by SMS, email, or a mobile app push notification or all of the above. From there you would connect to the system and if you see something wrong, you would then need to call the police, security guard, or respond in some other way. You could also activate strobe light, flood lights, sirens, or talk to the person or persons onsite using the 2 ways audio feature which is available on the mobile app as well as software application for computer. Basically you and your staff become the monitoring center. One advantage is that you know your site best and you know what activity is normal and what is not. If you have full-time security staff that are on your staff, this solution might be a good option for your company.
Here are some of the problems with self monitoring.
- You could miss the alerts if your phone settings are not set properly, you are in a bad signal area, or on vacation
- You may not be comfortable responding in a high stress situation where you are seeing a crime in progress
- Unless you are already awake, handling alarm response in the middle of the night can ruin a good night's sleep
- Video AI has come a long way but there will always be instances of false alarms.
